Accommodation and Respite Team Leader

About the Role

As the Accommodation & Respite Team Leader in the NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) program at Barkuma, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our SIL services in the Northern Adelaide area. This role involves leading, managing, and developing a team of support staff to ensure high-quality, person-centered support for clients. The Team Leader ensures that services are delivered in line with Barkuma’s mission, vision, and values, and in compliance with NDIS standards and regulations. The role includes a 7-day rotating roster including morning and afternoon shifts to ensure continuous support for clients and staff.

This role requires providing assistance and support to vulnerable individuals, making a meaningful impact on their lives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist ARS manager in recruitment, training, and supervision of support staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to ensure staff development and alignment with organisational goals.
  • Oversee the implementation and review of Individual Support plans for clients.
  • Ensure that services are tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each client.
  • Monitor service delivery to ensure compliance with NDIS standards and organisational policies.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain high-quality service provision.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients and their families.
  • Encourage active participation and feedback to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Manage rosters, staff supervision and day to day support needs to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Participate in the emergency after-hours roster as required.

What you will need be successful in this role:

  • Minimum 1 year leadership experience in similar role
  • Experience and understanding of 24/7 rosters
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Effective delegation and time management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and staff
  • Active listening and empathy
  • Ability to work and travel across different Barkuma sites

Qualifications and Clearances:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Disability required
  • Work rights for Australia
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening or DHS Disability clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ (or willingness to obtain)
  • After hours/weekend will be required
  • Current Australian Driver’s License, vehicle registration and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
  • Appropriate Infection Control Certificate
  • Appropriate Assist with Medication Certificate
  • Appropriate First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate
