Barkuma’s person centred approach means we can support you throughout your employment journey; from transitioning out of school to finding and keeping a job by creating employment pathways for people with disability.

Barkuma’s services are holistic and flexible, meaning you can connect with any of our programs, and transition through to different supports as you gain skills or your needs change.

TRANSITION TO WORK

Barkuma’s Transition Program is a 12 month program designed to assist final year students with developmental disabilities smoothly transition from school to their future pathways. In an adult environment, students will experience structured learning, skill development, accredited training, career guidance and work placement opportunities. School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) are designed to help young people explore and understand their work potential. They will gain confidence and skills to assist them in transitioning from school into future pathways, and make new social connections along the way.

THE TRANSITION PROGRAM

The Transition Program is a 12 month program designed to assist final year high school students in making the transition from school to employment or further study. The program is open to students going into their last year of high school.

SCHOOL LEAVER EMPLOYMENT SUPPORTS (SLES)

School Leaver Employment Supports or SLES is an NDIS support to assist you in gaining the skills and confidence to move from school to work. We can provide up to 24 months of tailored support to suit you.

READY TO WORK

Once participants are ready to find a job, they may choose to build experience as a supported employee at Barkuma Commercial Services, or supported in open employment through Barkuma’s Disability Employment Services (DES). Supported employment at Barkuma is a great way to develop skills, confidence, experience, and make friends. Barkuma’s DES is the only specialist service of its kind in South Australia. As we work with over 300 employers across a range of industries, we will help you find the job that’s right for you.

Supported Employment (Barkuma Commercial Services)

Production workers in our factories are valued employees of Barkuma. You will receive a wage, flexible hours, leave entitlements, superannuation and other benefits. You will do meaningful tasks and receive training to help you reach your employment goals.

Open Employment (DES)

At Barkuma, we work with you to prepare for work, find the right position, and keep that job. Barkuma fosters valued relationships, which enables the people we support to sustain long term employment. We get to know you to ensure you get the job that is right for you so you can live your all.

Participants can begin their journey with any of our services, and with the support of Case Managers and Job Coordinators, choose their own pathway to meaningful work and independence. The Barkuma difference is that we offer Transition, SLES, Supported Employment and Disability Employment Service to ensure you have continuity of Employment Supports.
