After 24 years at Barkuma, the last 7.5 years as CEO, Simon Rowberry resigns from his role to explore other opportunities.
Mr Rowberry has worked at Barkuma since 2001, joining as a job search officer in our DES team and subsequent multiple positions in the organisation before being appointed CEO in 2018. During that time, Mr Rowberry led the team supporting the transition of the old block funding models to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and successful tenders including the most recent Inclusive Employment Australia contract.
Simon decided on a new direction for his career after long service leave in 2025.
“I am extremely proud of the role that I have personally played in both building Barkuma and supporting thousands of people with disability to ‘live their all’ over the last 24 years. 24 years working for the one business is a long time, and now is the right time to explore other opportunities.” Mr Rowberry says.
The Board, staff and clients of Barkuma thank Mr Rowberry for his dedication to the Barkuma community and to championing supported and open employment for people with disability in South Australia and beyond.
Board Chair Ursula Hickey says Mr Rowberry has always believed in the important work of Barkuma and disability employment.
“Throughout his career with Barkuma, Simon has always understood the importance of employment for people with disability, especially as fulfilling work as a valued and valuable employee is one way we create more inclusive communities,” Ms Hickey says.
The Board will now commence recruitment for a new CEO, with Barkuma Executive Manager, Operations, Maureen Lawlor, continuing in the Acting CEO role.
