Reflecting on 40 Years of Dedication: A Farewell to the Barkuma Board

7th May, 2025

Good afternoon everyone,

After more than 40 years serving as a volunteer director on the Barkuma Board (the last 25 as Chairperson), I have made the difficult decision that 2025 will be my final year as a Board Member.

To ensure a smooth transition, I have stepped down from the role of Chairperson, effective from the April board meeting. I am pleased to announce that Ursula Hickey, with the full support of the Board, will serve as Chairperson until the AGM later this year.  Ursula is already doing a fantastic job, and I am confident that her leadership will bring tremendous value to both the Board and the organisation as we move forward. I will continue to serve on the Board as Deputy Chairperson until the AGM, providing guidance and support to Ursula and the Board during this period.

On a personal note – Over the last 40+ years, I have witnessed firsthand the work that Barkuma does to positively improve the lives of people with a disability, and it has been my privilege to serve on the Board with high-quality people who have done their best to provide direction and stewardship to the business in both positive and turbulent times.  I also want to acknowledge the many staff members whose unwavering dedication and passion in providing vital support have made a profound and lasting impact throughout my time on the Board.

To the membership, customers, and staff, you have played a significant role in my life over the last 40 + years, and I have loved getting to know you, and I look forward to keeping in contact as a life member.

I hope to see you all at the next AGM.
