Joel: Winning Hearts and Awards at Sofitel Adelaide

29th April, 2026

Being part of a team

For Joel, work is about more than just getting the job done; it’s about connection, contribution and being part of a team.

Joel has been working at Sofitel Adelaide for the past 18 months as a Housekeeping Services Runner, playing a key role in supporting the hotel’s housekeeping team.

His role keeps the hotel moving behind the scenes. From delivering essential supplies like linen, toiletries and bottled water across multiple floors, to collecting used items and assisting with day-to-day tasks, Joel ensures the team has what they need to deliver a high-quality guest experience.

It’s a role that requires reliability, awareness and a commitment to helping, and Joel brings all of that every day.

But what genuinely sets Joel apart is his capacity to connect with the people around him.

“What I enjoy most about working at Sofitel is the people there. Everyone is really nice, and I have had really good conversations with people; everyone there is wonderful.”

Joel has built strong working relationships across the team, with colleagues appreciating not just the practical support he provides but also the positivity and energy he brings to the workplace. Whether it’s a quick chat in the staff elevator or stepping in to help wherever needed, Joel is known for making people feel welcome and supported.

Recognition

The impact Joel has in the workplace hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Joel was recently awarded Sofitel Adelaide’s Heart to Heart Award, one of three quarterly staff awards that recognise team members who go above and beyond for their colleagues. The Heart to Heart Award specifically honours staff who consistently display true care, positivity and teamwork, making a real difference to both guests and colleagues. Joel was chosen for this recognition for his strong commitment to supporting his team and for the personal connections he builds every day.

As shared by his manager:

“Joel is so personable, always saying hello and asking about everyone’s day. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Joel, and the team loves him.”

For Joel, the award is a proud moment, but just one of many highlights.

“As for highlights, I guess winning the Heartist Award would be one of them. Also, this job gives me the flexibility to travel more as well, as I really enjoy travelling.”
