Managing Challenging Behaviour
The Barkuma Training - Managing Challenging behaviour course assists those in the disability services sector to understand the complexities of challenging behaviour and to assess and understand the underlying needs. The focus is on forewarning strategies and addressing behaviour through the promotion of alternative, constructive behaviour.
What You’ll Learn
Barkuma Training focuses on utilizing person centred thinking skills in understanding those you are supporting. By learning about what individuals like, dislike, things that are truly important to them as well as what they need. Through these skills participants will develop a better understanding and how to best respond before challenging behaviour occurs (when there are telltale signs of behaviour occurring) as well as how to respond in a respectful manner when challenging behaviour does occur. There is as much an emphasis on how to support individuals as well as on how to keep you (the support worker) safe.
