It’s official! The NDIS is here and ready to go. For many South Australians the NDIS has arrived, so it’s important to understand how to get the plan that is right for you. If you are well prepared you will see better outcomes, so here’s some key points of information to get you started.
Being Contacted by the NDIA
If you already receive a Disability Service you will be contacted by the NDIA to organise your first NDIS meeting, you will either get a phone call or a letter.
You can bring someone with you to your NDIS planning meeting
A trusted friend, family member or advocate can help jog your memory during the planning meeting to make sure all your goals are discussed.
What support do you currently receive?
Clearly document all current formal and informal supports you receive from Barkuma and other providers. As part of this collect your weekly schedules, plans, assessments and reports that will assist you to demonstrate the level of support you need. Identify if there are any gaps in your current support.
Goals are extremely important!
Create your goals in a broad way that allows for flexibility in the implementation of your plan. For example instead creating the goal ‘I want to go horse riding’ create the goal ‘I want to exercise.’ What do you want in the short, medium and long term and what are the steps needed to achieve this?
We can help you!
If you don’t have an NDIS plan we can assist you through the application process. Once your application has been approved we can provide a whole range of supports under the scheme. Our focus is on you! We aim to get the plan that is best for you. Click here to see our NDIS supports.
