After working in retail Anne knew she wanted to work in the disability sector. "I knew this type of work would be very rewarding. I’ve had personal experiences with people with disability and I am passionate about equal rights." Anne says. Studying a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) was always the goal for Anne, with Barkuma Training her preferred choice. "I knew Barkuma and its Registered Training Organisation had been around for a long time, so they understand disability and the sector. Their training options also meant I was able to gain my qualifications quicker."
Through her training, Anne also completed a work placement in Barkuma’s Accommodation and Respite service. Margaret Fischer, Manager of Barkuma’s Accommodation and Respite servce said "During Anne’s student placement she connected well with customers, showing initiative and commitment. Anne’s values and person centered approach aligns with Barkuma’s mission and values. Through her placement she was successful in gaining employment as a support worker within the Barkuma Accommodation team. We look forward to working with Anne and further developing her skills as our team member."
To anyone considering working in the disability sector Anne says "If you’re passionate, do it!"
