The Adelaide Tree Surgery team have been providing professional tree management services to both private and corporate clients since 2002. The Adelaide Tree Surgery provides services from pruning right down to root investigation. They are committed to the environment and community, endeavouring to achieve maximum results with minimal impact on natural surroundings.
As part of their commitment to community, Adelaide Tree Surgery offered David, one of Barkuma’s job seekers, work 2 days a week as a Yard Hand. Mark, Director of Adelaide Tree Surgery says “we value working with people from different backgrounds and experiences, from this we can all learn and get another view.” Mark hadn’t considered employing a person with disability, until hearing about it from a colleague. “After hearing from Jo Marshall, General Manager of Programmed, the benefits it bring to your organisation we decided we would get involved. It felt like the right thing to do for our business, our people, and our community.” David’s duties include wood splitting, general tidying and maintenance. “David has immersed himself into our working culture and embraces each task. With his help, Adelaide Tree Surgery can now offer firewood to our customers, something that has always been a part of my vision.”
To anyone considering employing a Barkuma job seeker Mark says “I would highly recommend an employer to ‘give it a go’. It has been great to observe David’s commitment and pride in his role and his contribution to our business. Employers need to lead the way in embracing disability inclusion in the workplace.”
